NG 215 was part of an altarpiece said by Vasari to have been made for the Camaldolese monastery (now destroyed) of S. Benedetto fuori della Porta a Pinti, Florence. A lost Angel of the Annunciation may originally have been the pinnacle above NG 215. See further commentary under NG 1897, with which NG 215 formed a single unified surface.
