One angel holds a red and white banner which could be either that of Saint George, patron of England, or the banner of Christ\'s victory over death at the Resurrection. On the reverse is a shield with the arms of France and England, impaled with those of Edward the Confessor, surmounted by a helm, a cap of maintenance and a crowned lion (left); and a White Hart Lodged (right) with a crown collar. The white hart was Richard\'s personal device, and the broom-cod (collars of which are worn by Richard and the angels) was the device of Charles VI, King of France, although probably also taken over by Richard.
Painted in the orb at the top of the banner is a green island with a white castle with two turrets. The island is surrounded by blue sky at the top and a silver sea in which there is a boat with masts and a white sail. The orb is probably a symbol of
