This panel was probably the inside of the right shutter of an altarpiece, but NG 3901 could not have been the outside of this shutter as has been surmised. No other elements of this altarpiece are known.
Apparently acquired in Madrid between 1810 and 1822 by Lord Cowley; presented by Henry Wagner, 1924.
