It has been suggested that NG 3648 was the central predella panel of an altarpiece attributed to the Master of the Castello Nativity in Prato (Museo del Duomo). Two other predella panels have been identified: Saints Giusto and Clemente multiplying the Grain of Volterra and Saints Giusto and Clemente praying for the Delivery of Volterra from Barbarians (Philadelphia, Johnson collection). This altarpiece came from the church of SS. Giusto e Clemente at Faltugnano.
Collection of Sir Henry Howorth by 1907; by whom presented through the NACF in memory of Lady Howorth, 1922.
