NG 3627 was almost certainly part of a frame. It was formerly catalogued as by Masaccio, and said to be probably from the frame of his Pisa polyptych (NG 3046), although there is no evidence for this. NG 3627 is probably Florentine, and most likely datable to about 1420-50, although recently it has been attributed to the circle of Piero della Francesca.
Collection of Charles Ricketts and Charles Haslewood Shannon by about 1508; by whom presented through the NACF, 1922.
