The dead Christ is tenderly lowered from the cross, his body supported by Joseph of Arimathea and John the Evangalist, while Nicodemus (?) removes a nail from Christ\'s feet. Mary Magdelene pours tears over Christ\'s hand and the Virgin presses her griefstricken face against his. The panel formed one of the scenes of Christ\'s life from the predella of the high altarpiece of S. Croce, Florence (as did the adjacent panel).
