Fantin-Latour spent some time painting in England in 1861 and this picture may have entered a British collection soon after it was painted. His flower-pieces were popular in England, and he exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1862 onwards.
Bought by Sir Hugh Lane from the Staats Forbes collection by 1904; Lane Bequest, 1917; on loan to the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery of Modern Art, Dublin, since 1979.
