The church has not been identified, and may be an invention of Pieter Neeffs. A service (probably Benediction if it is evening) is about to begin.
NG 2206 is one of a series of church interiors by Pieter Neeffs the Elder (or his studio) in which the figures are by other artists. Here the figures and the statues are by Bonaventura Peeters the Elder (1614-52). There are numerous variants by Neeffs of NG 2206. This type of composition was first developed by Hendrick van Steenwyck the Younger.
