The Virgin stands holding the Christ Child; she is about to be crowned by two angels. This is an early example of the Madonna of the Rosary. At the right is a diminutive donor who wears the black habit of a Benedictine monk. The monk\'s head is on a piece of wood inserted and painted in the nineteenth-century; the original fragment survives in the Westfälisches Landesmuseum, Münster.
NG 2151 is the central panel of an altarpiece from the Benedictine monastery of Herzebrock (Westphalia). Other portions of the work survive in Münster (Westfälisches Landesmuseum). The work was probably painted late in the fifteenth century.
From the Benedictine Convent at Herzebrock, near Rheda; Krüger collection, Minden, 1848; from where bought, 1854.
