It is near Elewijt, between Vilvoorde and Malines. The house survives, although in a substantially altered state. The direction of the view is towards the north; the city on the horizon may be Antwerp and the town in front of it may be Malines. The light and the types of vegetation suggest that it is an autumn morning. In the foreground a hunter with dogs stalks partridge resting on the far side of a blackberry hedge. On the left a wagon leaves the house, while in the right middle distance women milk a herd of cows.
NG 66 was probably painted in about 1636. It may have been intended as a pendant to Rubens\'s Landscape with a Rainbow (London, Wallace Collection); both paintings are of similar size and date, and came from the Balbi collection in the eighteenth century.
As with many of Rubens\'s landscapes, the support is complex. In this case it is made up of seventeen oak panels.
