Jean de la Chambre (1605/6-68), who is shown holding a quill, was a distinguished calligrapher and Master of the French School in the Ursulasteeg, Haarlem.
NG 6411 was used as the modello for an engraving of Jean de la Chambre by Jonas Suyderhoef, dated 1638, which served as the frontispiece to a collection of six of his own engraved examples of his calligraphic skill.
