Morosini (1511-88) held a number of important public posts in and around Venice; he had been Prefect of Bergamo, Procurator of St Mark\'s, and in 1584 became president of the University of Padua. He wears over his right shoulder the Stola d\'Oro (stole of gold), the insignia of an order of knighthood.
Approximate dating is possible because of the age of the sitter, and the close relationship with the Resurrection, which is dated to about 1585.
