Croce, Florence. Each of the spandrel angels in the altarpiece was distinctively different. Some of the main tier panels from the altarpiece survive (Berlin, Gemäldegalerie). All the other works catalogued here as by Ugolino are from this altarpiece; for further discussion see under NG 1188.
Beneath the spandrel is part of the main tier, from which the gold and gesso have been scraped, revealing fragments of the layer of linen beneath.
