The portrait of Abel Widmer (1805-38) dates from about 1824, and was probably the first of ten such portraits by Delacroix that hung in the reception room at the school until Goubaux\'s death in 1859. Abel Widmer won a second prize in mathematics in 1824; he later became an industrialist.
