These three panels come from the Certosa at Pavia (seen in Bergognone NG 1410), where they formed the lower tier of a six-panel altarpiece, probably commissioned in 1496 by (or on behalf of) Lodovico il Moro, Duke of Milan. Perugino\'s signature can be seen on NG 288.2. The upper tier comprised God the Father (by Perugino; Pavia, Certosa) flanked by the Virgin Annunciate and the Angel Gabriel (by Fra Bartolommeo; Geneva, Musée d\'Art et d\'Histoire).
Copies in the Certosa, Pavia, record the appearance of the panels before they were cut down between 1784 and 1856. The composition of NG 288.1 is repeated in Perugino\'s Madonna del Sacco (Florence, Pitti).
