This view shows the main piazza of Venice from the west, looking towards the façade of the basilica of S. Marco and its campanile. On the left are the Procuratie Vecchie and the Torre dell\'Orologio, while on the right are the Procuratie Nuove. The tent-like constructions near the basilica are vendors\' booths. The scale of figures in the foreground seems incompatible with that of the buildings.
NG 210 illustrates a degree of influence from Canaletto. It is considered stylistically mature and dated to about 1760.
A number of versions of this view by Guardi are known; see NG 2525.
