The music is copied exactly from Troisième livre de trios, pour les violons, flutes et hautbois, mêlés de sonates pour la flute traversière (Paris 1707). The figure seated at the left holds a bass viol.<BR>The seated musician at the right with a flute, whose costume is richer than those of the others, may have been an amateur who commissioned the portrait as a record of his association with the composer.
