NG 1682 is sometimes said to be a very early work, probably from the 1460s and perhaps from before 1466. In common with many paintings designed by Francesco di Giorgio, it seems likely to have been executed by an associate. This small picture was presumably painted for private devotion. The back is painted with a crude imitation of antique serpentine (green Greek porphyry) with a pink marble border.
