NG 1377 was probably painted in about 1525-30 and is closely related to an altarpiece of the same subject by Giovanni da Asola (died 1531) in the cathedral at Asola. NG 1377 was formerly said to be by Savoldo, but has now been attributed to Bernardino da Asola. Several similar pictures of the same subject - and seemingly by the same hand - are known (e.g. Kansas City, Nelson Atkins Museum). They all derive - perhaps indirectly - from various works by Titian.
