Antoine Pâris (1668-1733) was the eldest of four brothers, all of whom were famous financiers at the outset of the eighteenth century.
In Rigaud\'s account book, Le Livre de raison, there is a record of two portraits of Antoine Pâris having been painted \'en grand\' in 1724. NG 6428 is clearly one of these works. The other may be a very similar painting in the Norton Simon Foundation, California.
