NG 576 was part of the upper tier of the high altarpiece of S. Pier Maggiore, Florence; see commentary under NG 578 and the reconstruction in Appendix A.
The landscape background between NG 575 (The Resurrection) and NG 576 is the same, but the tomb is made slightly smaller to accommodate the three Maries. The gold background has been almost entirely regilded.
