NG 3923 formed the left-hand side of a polyptych in the parish church of S. Giorgio in Porto S. Giorgio (Porto di Fermo). This altarpiece was apparently signed and dated 1470, the year in which it was said to have been commissioned (the documentation has apparently been lost). Other elements of the altarpiece survive: the central panel of the Virgin and Child is in Washington (National Gallery of Art), the Pietà is in Detroit (Michigan, Institute of Fine Arts) and a Saint George is in Boston (Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum). Two small lunettes are in Tulsa and Cracow. The attribution to Crivelli has sometimes been queried on grounds of quality.
Recorded in the church of S. Giorgio in Porto S. Giorgio (Porto di Fermo), 1834; Mond Bequest, 1924.
