The form in which Gentile Bellini has signed NG 3911 indicates that the picture cannot have been painted before 1469, the year he was knighted.
Probably in the studio of Paolo Fabris, Venice, by 1857; acquired by Sir Charles Eastlake between 1855 and 1865; bought by J.P. Richter for Ludwig Mond, 1894; Mond Bequest, 1924.
