NG 592 is an early work by Botticelli in which the influence of Fra Filippo Lippi is marked. The subject of the Adoration of the Kings was popular with wealthy Florentines, many of whom belonged to a lay association (the Compagnia dei Magi) which venerated the Three Kings.
Pentimenti can be seen (left of centre) where several heads have been painted out. On the reverse there is a drawing of a female figure with a shield, a face and various scribbles (drawn onto the unprimed wood).
