Saint Clement was a first-century pope. He holds the anchor to which, according to legend, he was lashed and then thrown into the sea off the Crimea. The donor has not been identified.
NG 2669 is the left wing of a triptych; the other panels from this triptych - The Virgin and Child and A Donatrix with Saint Elisabeth - were formerly in the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection. The costume suggests a date in the 1480s.
The frame is original.
