On the ground lie a stag and a heron. Two hares, a gun and a horn are hung from the tree at the left. At the right a boy blows a hunting horn, and in the landscape beyond him a stag hunt is in progress.
This painting may have been commissioned by the Elector Palatine for his hunting lodge at Schloss Bensberg. Weenix was his court painter in 1708.
