The composition may derive from frescoes of 1365-7 in the Chapter House (the so-called Spanish Chapel) of S. Maria Novella, Florence, by Andrea da Firenze. NG 575 was part of the upper tier of the high altarpiece of S. Pier Maggiore, Florence; see commentary under NG 578 and the reconstruction in Appendix A.
