The view is across the Campo S. Vidal and the Grand Canal towards the church of S. Maria della Carità. The campo is filled with a temporary workman\'s hut beside a well-head, and large pieces of masonry in various stages of preparation; they are probably intended for the façade of the nearby church of S. Vidal (S. Vitale), which is not visible in the picture. The campo and well-head still exist. The campanile of the church of S. Maria della Carità collapsed in 1744 and the church and the Scuola to the right of it became the Accademia di Belle Arti in the early nineteenth century.
It is not known for whom NG 127 was painted. It is dated to 1726-30 on stylistic grounds.
