A vision of the Crucified Christ has been cut from the top of NG 773 and is now in Milan (Brera). In the right background a donor and Saint Francis, or conceivably a friar adopting the saint\'s pose at the Stigmatisation, appear to look up at where the vision of the Crucified Christ was positioned. An owl (which has caught a frog) and a wall creeper are visible on the tree. On the left friars seem to be involved in a building project. NG 773 could have been placed as the altarpiece in a newly built chapel of Saint Jerome in a Franciscan church or in a private chapel.
NG 773 has a very finished underdrawing that can be seen through the thin layers of flesh paint.
