L612 was painted for Pandolfo Saccini of Siena. It is considered one of Guercino\'s most lyrical late works.
Collection of Adriano Salimbene, Siena, 1714; acquired by the 2nd Marquess of Rockingham, 1751; inherited on his death (1782) by his sister Lady Anne Watson-Wentworth; from whose descendants the picture was acquired by (Sir) Denis Mahon, 1948; on loan since 1992.
