NG 6524 was probably painted in the 1830s, possibly for Pierre Louis Ravené who moved into the building in the foreground in 1833. No figures are seen in NG 6524, which may suggest that it was made in preparation for another picture, although no other version of this composition is known.
The striking composition, dominated by the geometrical precision of the zinc roof in the foreground, is typical of Gaertner\'s work.
